CHARLESTOWN On days when the exposed eastern side of St Austell Bay is rough and the western side is relatively calm (typically with a fresh or strong south-westerly wind), we are unable to use Fowey harbour and instead offer an alternative service between Mevagissey and Charlestown along the western fringe of the bay. |

Charlestown harbour remains almost as it was in Georgian times and has been used as a location in films and television series such as Longitude, Onedin Line and many more.

The dock is home to three tall ships used in filming projects all over the world. In addition to the delightful harbour and two good bathing beaches, Charlestown offers a choice of excellent pubs and tea rooms, a pottery, picture gallery and a fish “smokery”. It is also home to the outstanding “Shipwreck, Rescue and Heritage Centre”, an all weather family attraction which no visitor to Cornwall should miss. Ferry tickets from Mevagissey include half price admission (£2.25 for adults) to the Heritage Centre - just show your ferry ticket.

Charlestown outer harbour dries out at low tide, so the timetable is published at each of the departure points (or click HERE) on the day of sailing.
The return fare is £6 for adults and £4 for children under 16.
The journey takes approximately 25 minutes each way and offers an unrivalled view of some of Cornwall's loveliest coastline. The ferry departs from the steps next to the lock gate and tickets can be purchased on board.
